Summer of 1988.
It certainly brought a revolution in the Hindi Film Music...and it was brought by the famous duo of Anand-Milind in the movie called QSQT. That was a such a drastic and bold shift from the then current trend of playback music....and masses just liked this "shift" and rest is history.
It was indeed a trendsetter. The movie and its actors also did get a great lift from its popular soft and so different than usual music of late 80s for sure!
Well I think after around 20 years that is happening again...
This time it is brought by not just one or two music directors but rather a group of new and extremely talented and offbeat (singers composers alike). There are many but couple of them whom I would like to mention about are Kay Kay, Preetam Charobarty, Rabbi Shergill and so on....
Now what fun it is where I write more and more about these great trendsetters but without letting you judge what I mean.
So this post is about the songs which I am listening to now a days. (reminds me that I can certainly write about my IPOD which is slightly more than 6 months old now...but deserves
a good nice article).
The below link allows you to play the songs...I have two playlists in the upcoming beta version of website called "esnips.com". A nice and great way to share digital content.
Internet..Wao Internet!!!
So in my playlist of current top 16, you will see songs from Delhi heights (Shergill and Sonu Nigam with mind blowing base guitar), it has many songs from "yet to release" movie called "Life in a Metro", as well as Hits from Gangster and Woh Lamhe (all products from Preetam/KK)! Rememebr Remo....of Jalwa and Bombay fame (may be the only true "deshi" rock singer whene we were growing up) he has come back after long time in Life May...kabhi kabhi. the title of his song is "No Problem". Another very soft romantic number from Abhijeet from a never heard 2006 year release called "dil sey pooch kidhar jana hai!"
It also has two from the veteran A R Rahman (Guru) and Amitabh (Nishabd). Finally it ends with a Grammy 2007 nomination by snow-patrol (Chasing Cars), nice one with great lyrics!
The second playlist just got created as I was uploading some songs from my ipod most frequent playing list. The one I would like to mention specifically is from the movie Wardaat(1981) I had it in my ipod as part of Bappi-Da collection and I remember I liked it when I was in class 8 or so. And then one day suddenly Apple's random playlist algorithm decides "ok IG..it is time again"..and I get reintroduced to this nice number. Since then I am listening it quite often.
You know what I used to wonder about this song (Too Mujhey Jaan Sey bhee Pyarta Hai)..it is rendered by grand pa and grand ma of Indian Pop (ie Bappi Da and Usha Uthup) and it is a duet..but it is so hard to distinguish when Bappi da is singing or when Usha Di is
singing..except by the words like "karoonga" or "karoonge". There is no satire here...but just an interesting observation made in my early years and get reminded of everytime when I listen to it.
Enjoy My Playlists....I will try to keep it updated.

Good going Gans. Keep it up!
BTW, I am also very surprised that the music of "Dil se Pooch.." did not become polular. It has some very nice numbers including "Dhoop Kajlai..". Very good lyrics..
There is another new (no major stars) movie is "Kahaan se aaye badarwa". Probably not released yet but the title song is good - with a classical touch..
Hi Vishal
I will soon download your recommendations.
Also thx for leaving a comment!
BTW,
also listen to music of "Cheeni Kum". Couple of good songs with music by Ilaiyaraaja.
