Christina Rosenthal

Well...I am trying once again to regain the lost hobby of Reading. It is not a sudden decision but maybe some influence from few friends and particularly some recent blog updates by mpcnb and talks with him.

So the other other day I hit to local library and pick up two books. One was already read by mine 12 years back..the other was new. They were from two master story tellers Jeff Archer and Frederick Forsyth. At least I didnt think that I can go for this trial run with some heavy philosophical type or thick novels...so this choice of collection of short stories. Maybe once I get the flow and become a veteran (thats the story book collection I got of Forsynth) I will move to heavy stuffs.

My today's post is about one of that short story "Christina Rosenthal". Somehow when I read it first time (12 years back)..I found it one of the best love story I had ever read..it touched me thoroughly. I dont want to be a spoiler..but it is about a son mentioning his dad through a letter expressing his love and the woman he loved. Maybe it is a very typical story...but that time I found it just awesome and could not take my mind out of it!

Now I decided to take this book again and see if I can relive those feelings/moments I had felt so long time back. At the same time I was apprehensive about that the feeling/thoughts which I had "maintained" it for so long...just does not get shattered, if I dont find it that appealing
anymore. Which would simply reflect that not the story rather it was my "age" and "then thinking" probably which mesmerized it at that time...somehow I didnt want that to happen and rather still give full credit to Mr Archer a known crime/suspense thriller author for this
masterpiece love story.

It is the last story in his collection called "A Twist in The Tale".

(careful..Spoiler ahead)

So Last night I read that again.....and I wont lie...It still gave me the same exact feeling I got a dozen year back. True love is very rare....but those rare fortunate who get it (like Benjamin and Christina in this case) couldn't enjoy for long as Love and Pain go certainly Hand in Hand. Maybe Love cant be enjoyed if there is No pain associated with that..or for that matter probably they complete each other.
Part of that vicious circle when one generates the other and it keeps on going only their magnitude increasing each time!

They say it (the pain part of love) makes them powerful....Strong and Better.

Unfortunately Benjamin never got the opportunity to get STRONGER and BETTER again!

Here is a link to some other blogs discussing Christina Rosenthal.

If you have not read it yet...read it and you will either like it a lot (like me) or laugh it off a lot thinking how such a typical and melancholic love story can appeal anyone! If latter is the case I can only say maybe the glass you and me are looking it through is so different!
