Local Dallas News

Sept 25: 1PM
Well this will be the certainly the last post in this thread.
Dallas DID NOT have a single drop of rain since Rita made the
landfall, not even a single "roaring of sky" I could hear. Today,
I dont see a single streak of cloud in the sky and it is sunny,
clear blue sky right now.
People have started returning to Houston creating another
traffic havoc. The hurricane did quite a damage in Tx-La border,
where as of now still the rescue missions are going on, and it
is afraid people are still trapped in flodded water. How much exact
damage was done with this hussricane will be known few days
later once everything settles down.
Finally I cant END the blog without including this "PJ" from
DD.
"On hearing names like Katerina and Rita, some people may
rather choose to stay. I believe that's why the level of damage
was so high. It wasn't so bad with Ivan you remember"
National Hurricane Center, ARE YOU LIZENING
(as Mrs Aiyyar would have said) and can you PLEASE take
out these types of "attractive names" from the list of future hurricanes...The choice is yours!
Sept 24: 4 PM
Still rain has not started and I doubt if it will soon. The wind
gust has certainly increased to 40 mph or so. As there are not
much events going on, I am planning to close this session
soon, but will wait till the 1st drop of Atlantic water.
Sept 24: 11AM
We are currently experiencing one of the pleasent most weather
in the recent times. With cloudy, 80 degree F, 15 miles wind.
There might be few thunderstorms/rains later in the day,
but that wont be any different from any other typical thunderstorm
(non hurricane) . RITA Dodged Dallas.
Next big worry: To consume 2 gallons of milk before their expiry date!
Sept 24: 3AM
RITA has landed. Near TX-LA border. Hard hit towns are
Bueaumont TX, Sabine Pass TX, Port Arthur TX. These
are east of Galveston TX. Saw some huge fires in few
buildings in Galveston TX. New Orleans getting rains
incessantly. Some levee broke there again and a part of
city is flodded.
As far as Dallas is concerned, its a lovely weather outside.
Can see clouds. They are saying rain will start here sometime
saturday afternoon. But certainly we are NOT going to see
any major action.
Sept 23: 4PM
Well, it is happening now. Gas stations are out of gas. Grocery stores,
out of bread, water etc. Glad that we purchased the necessaery items
earlier...though it may not be needed. The feeling is that Dallas is not
going to be affected severey but it is the panic mode and speculation
which is doing its work.
Also this morning RITA claimed its first fatalities. 24 elderly
people (from a nursing home?) died when their bus exploded
(oxygen tank) 30 miles from Dallas. They were on their way
from Houston to Dallas. I-45 is slightly better than it was 24 hrs back.
This exodus is considered to be the biggest in History of Texas.
Few minutes back went out out for a while could feel the wind is
picking up and see bands of clouds..they were NOT there frew hours
before...may be the outer most bands of the Hurricane.
Plan to leave early today and will need to pickup drinks for Ritwik
(Pedialite, he is slowly recovering), and few drinks for me..it is going
to be LOOONG Weekend!
Sept 23: 1AM
Rita is rapidly drifting towrads east, so Dallas is no more in its
central path. Also it is losing its speed now act 4 storm.
We still will be getting lots of rain, wind gust, thunderstorm
and possible many tornadoes. Few hours back did some more grocery mainly
bread/jam etc. Few people were buying stuff in panic mode though.
Deviating from topic: Tried the Dove cookies launced recently.
Soap comopany can make such delicious cookies..unbelievable!
Worth Trying!
One of our known person from Houston is still caught in traffic
since last 14 hrs, they plan to recah here by tomorrow afternoon...
travelling witha 2 yr old daughter.
So thats all for now, will keep updating....
Sept 22: 2PM
Tried to contact few friends at Houston, and experineced the very rare
thing for a domesticall call. "All lines are busy". One of my friend's
friend just reached Dallas from Hosuton ..it took them 23 hours to reach
here (220 miles distance). I45 is totally clogged. I wonder had there been
no "katrina" 1 million people would not be at road now. May be this will
end up as an anti-climax as of yesterday's plane landing (with stuck landing gear).
But yes...we all want this to prove an Anti-Climax
10AM
Nothing much done yesterday except filled gas and bought baby milk and water
checked the walkman which can play radio, checkout torch..need to buy battery today
..will do the rest of shopping tonite for emergency items such as food etc.
Yesterday night was too busy to follow the "emergency landing" of jet-blue..,
Ritwik is down with fever thats another reason, could no go out last night/
There is Still NOT much "thrill" in the local people I dont know why
though some say we can get as high as F2 speed. some say it will be onbly 30/40mph
NOAA website has updated and now the eye path seems slight east of DFW,
but instead of showing "S" (trop storm) it shows "H"(hurricane)
strength . Thats all for now....plan to keep outside world posted by my blogsite
Sept 21:
Within 24 hrs it becomes a cat 5 from cat 2. Ominously similar to
Katrina. Still targetted at galvestone, we at Dallas will be affected probablty
interms of rains. tornadoes, high speed winds, elecetricity water outage..need
to gear up for it.
